Hey friends!
I’m looking forward to the start of our summer Theology Lounge this week. And with it, two of Life’s core values stand out in my mind . . . as a church we want to be deeply marked as being biblical (God has revealed himself through the Scriptures, which are our source of authority for life and worship) and devotional (nothing is more important than a love relationship with Jesus). Cultivating these is foundational to everything we envision.
Our topic this summer (hermeneutics) hits both of these, as it is designed to help us go deeper into the Scriptures (think of the Lounge if you’d like as “seminary lite”). We will be learning about the different types of literature we find in the Bible (narrative, epistle, poetry, wisdom lit., prophecy, etc) and how we approach and interpret each. With that, we will be looking at the cultural backgrounds of different books, helpful study tools, getting at the Greek and Hebrew behind our translations, etc. Good times!
Someone asked me this week if this would be over their head, and the answer is no. Hopefully this will be a stretching time, but it will be very understandable and interactive.
The Lounge begins this Thursday, 7-9pm and will be held at King’s Harbor Church (23915 Garnier St., Torrance). If you plan to come but have not yet signed up, please reply and let me know so we can have enough materials.
Lord bless you my friends –
Tim
